BC Knowledge Test Prep is a free, independent study tool for the ICBC knowledge test, the first step to a Class 7L learner’s licence in British Columbia. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC) or the Government of British Columbia.
The study guide summarizes the rules described in ICBC’s Learn to Drive Smart in original wording. The sign illustrations are public-domain vector reproductions and simplified drawings, not ICBC’s artwork. Always confirm current fees, rules and penalties with official sources, as they change over time.
Your progress, mistakes and bookmarks are stored only in your browser (localStorage) and are never sent anywhere. No account is needed. What the analytics and advertising on the site do collect is set out in the privacy policy.
Languages
The interface, study guide and every question are available in English, French, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese. Switch languages at any time from the menu – your progress is shared across languages.
The real test at a glance
- 50 multiple-choice questions; 40 correct answers to pass. Almost one in five questions is about road signs.
- Minimum age 16. Under 19, a parent or guardian must sign a consent form. Bring two pieces of accepted ID and the fees.
- Take it online or at a driver licensing office. If you fail, you can try again after one day; there is a fee each time.
- Graduated licensing: L (learner, at least 12 months) → N (novice) → full Class 5. From October 19, 2026 a Driving Record Assessment replaces the second road test.
