About the ICBC knowledge test

  • You can get your learner’s (L) licence on or after your 16th birthday, once you pass the knowledge test. Under 19, a parent or guardian must sign a consent form.
  • The test has 50 multiple-choice questions, and you need 40 right to pass. ICBC says almost one in five questions is about road signs.
  • Our mock exam uses that format: 50 questions, 10 of them on signs, with a pass mark of 40. If you fail the real test you can try again after one day.
  • Everything in our study guide and questions is taken from ICBC’s Learn to Drive Smart and icbc.com, and each item cites its source.
