Directional sign
What it means
Shows which way to go for the places named: straight ahead, left or right at the intersection.
Green, blue and brown signs give directions, distances and services.

How to recognise it
A green sign with white place names, each beside an arrow pointing straight ahead, left or right.
Where you will see it
Before intersections and junctions where routes to different places split.
What to do when you see it
- 1.Find your destination and its arrow early, so you have time to choose the right lane.
- 2.Check your mirrors and blind spot and signal before moving over or turning.
- 3.If you are too late to turn safely, carry on and find another way back rather than cutting across traffic.
On the knowledge test
Expect a picture question: the arrows tell you the direction, not the distance. Distances belong to the destination sign.
