Steady red light
What it means
Stop. After you have come to a full stop and the intersection is clear, you may turn right, or turn left onto a one-way street, unless a sign forbids it.

How to recognise it
The top light of the signal lit steady red.
Where you will see it
At every intersection controlled by traffic lights.
What to do when you see it
- 1.Come to a complete stop: before the stop line; with no line, before the crosswalk (marked or not); with neither, just before you enter the intersection.
- 2.To go straight ahead, wait for the green.
- 3.After stopping and making sure the intersection is clear of vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians, you may turn right, or turn left onto a one-way street, unless a sign forbids it.
On the knowledge test
Questions ask where to stop and which turns are allowed on red. In B.C. the left turn on red is onto a one-way street, and only after a full stop.
