Green arrow — straight through only
What it means
A green arrow pointing straight ahead means you may go straight through only; no turn is permitted.

How to recognise it
A green arrow pointing straight up, lit in the bottom light of the signal.
Where you will see it
At some intersections controlled by traffic lights, in place of the round green, when turns from your direction are not permitted.
What to do when you see it
- 1.Go straight through only, when the intersection is clear.
- 2.Do not turn left or right while this arrow is shown.
- 3.If you meant to turn, carry on through and find another route rather than turning anyway.
On the knowledge test
The guide’s caption is "no turn permitted; go straight through only". That includes right turns: a straight arrow is not a green light you can turn on.
Do not confuse it with
- Green arrowAn arrow pointing left or right lets you turn that way; the straight arrow lets you do nothing but go straight.
