How to recognise it
A white square with a red circle and slash over a black letter P, often with arrows below pointing along the curb.
Where you will see it
Along curbs where a parked vehicle would block traffic, a driveway or the view of an intersection.

On the knowledge test
The P under the slash means parking is banned; stopping briefly is a separate question. Parking is also illegal in many places with no sign at all, such as near hydrants, crosswalks and railway crossings.
