Slippery road
What it means
The road may be slippery ahead. Slow down and avoid sudden braking or steering.
Yellow diamonds (and five-sided yellow-green school signs) warn of hazards ahead.

How to recognise it
A yellow diamond with a black car trailing wavy skid marks.
Where you will see it
Stretches that ice up, collect water or get covered in mud, leaves or sand.
What to do when you see it
- 1.Slow down before the slippery stretch and leave more space in front of you.
- 2.Brake, steer and accelerate smoothly; sudden moves can start a skid.
- 3.Take extra care at the start of a rainfall, when water and oil make the surface slickest.
On the knowledge test
The sign says the road may be slippery, so be ready even when it looks dry. The skid marks behind the car are what give it away.
