What it means
A steep hill is ahead. Slow down before you start down it.

How to recognise it
A yellow diamond with a black truck heading down a steep slope; a grade may be printed below it.
Where you will see it
Mountain passes and long grades on B.C. highways.
What to do when you see it
- 1.Slow down before you start down the hill, not halfway down.
- 2.Leave extra room ahead: going downhill, your vehicle needs a longer distance to stop.
- 3.Never pass as you approach the top of a hill; you cannot see what is on the other side.
On the knowledge test
The guide's instruction is simple: steep hill ahead, slow down. Gravity speeds you up going down, which is why the slowing happens before the grade.
