Stop sign ahead
What it means
A stop sign is ahead, often where you cannot see it yet. Slow down and be ready to stop.
Yellow diamonds (and five-sided yellow-green school signs) warn of hazards ahead.

How to recognise it
A yellow diamond with a red octagon, the stop sign, and a black arrow above it pointing ahead.
Where you will see it
Before an intersection controlled by a stop sign that drivers cannot see in time, often on rural roads.
What to do when you see it
- 1.Ease off the accelerator and be ready to stop: the stop sign may be hidden by a curve or a hill.
- 2.At the stop sign, stop completely and continue only when it is safe.
On the knowledge test
This yellow sign does not itself require a stop; it warns that a stop sign is ahead. The stop comes at the red octagon.
