What it means
While this sign is displayed, your vehicle must have winter tires or be carrying chains to continue on this road.

How to recognise it
A white rectangular sign with small pictures of vehicles and the words WINTER TIRES or CARRY CHAINS; a yellow panel at the top can show the dates it applies.
Where you will see it
At the start of highways that cross mountain passes or other areas that get snow and ice.
What to do when you see it
- 1.While the sign is displayed, continue only if your vehicle has winter tires or is carrying chains.
- 2.Before a trip over this kind of road in winter, check your tires and pack chains so you are not turned back.

The rule applies when the sign is displayed. Either winter tires or chains carried in the vehicle meets it; a question may offer "only in a snowstorm" as a wrong answer.
