What it means

Traffic from another road merges into yours ahead. Be ready to adjust your speed or position so it can join safely.

How to recognise it

A yellow diamond with a straight black arrow pointing up and a second, curved line joining it from the side.

Where you will see it

Highways and freeways before an entrance ramp or a road that joins without an added lane.

What to do when you see it

1.Watch for traffic joining from the side road or ramp ahead.
2.Help it merge: adjust your speed to leave a gap, or move to the left lane if it is safe.

Merging traffic has to fit into your lane; the courteous answer is to adjust your speed or change lanes to make room, not to speed up and close the gap.
