Traffic-control person ahead
What it means
A traffic-control person is directing traffic ahead. Slow down and follow their directions; you must obey them.
Orange signs mark construction zones and other temporary conditions.

How to recognise it
An orange diamond with a black figure of a person holding up a hand-held sign.
Where you will see it
Before work zones where a person is controlling traffic, often where only one lane is open for both directions.
What to do when you see it
- 1.Slow down and be ready to stop.
- 2.Follow the traffic-control person’s directions: stop when told to, and go only when directed.
- 3.In some zones you may have to wait for a pilot car to lead you through.
On the knowledge test
You must obey a traffic-control person. Just because you cannot see one right away does not mean one is not there — keep scanning.
